The night Olivia Chow was elected mayor in 2023, Jeffrey Kroeker went to the bar. It was not the evening he’d been hoping for. The CFO for Mark Saunders’ mayoral campaign, Kroeker was rooting for the former police chief, but Saunders earned less than 9 percent of the vote, finishing in a distant third behind Chow and runner-up Ana Bailão. Which is to say, it was time for a drink.
